The Miller High Life team looked to us for a design solution to support the third consecutive veterans program. The design solution leveraged the successful Miller High Life redesign while introducing a seasonal and patriotic color palette. The result is a disruptive packaging system that immediately evokes emotion while not diluting the Miller High Life brand. The design team was proud to offer a successful design solution and prouder still to support American Vets. Designed under Tosh Hall and Ryin Kobza.

Studio: Dunlop Art Department
Project: Dunlop Branding
Role: Designer, Copywriting, Branding Consultant

From the 1960s through the '80s, Jim Dunlop had established a reputation as a quality manufacturer of guitar accessories. The '90s–'00s was a time of incredible growth for the company as its reputation became greatly associated with the hard rock and heavy metal markets.

Since beginning at Dunlop, I have advocated strongly for a reevaluation of the Dunlop brand. After decades of tremendous success, I lobbied to embrace an identity more inclusive of diverse markets. I am of the opinion that embracing Dunlop's position as an industry leading corporation will be more advantageous to the brand than catering to a specific market of musicians.

Over the past two years I have worked to help Dunlop's marketing clarify and change their message. As Dunlop confidently assumes its role as the world leader in guitar accessories, musicians of all genres are taking notice.

Client: Brown Shoe
Project: Album Concept and Design
Role: Art Director, Designer, Photographer

Working as Brown Shoe's designer and art director has been one of the most rewarding creative relationships I have ever had. I have worked with them extensively over the last six years and with their full trust, I have created some of my most prized conceptual pieces.

Always striving to find a balance between the unexpected and rigid order, the designs for Brown Shoe have complimented their music superbly. From our photoshoots in front of a 12'x12' sticky note collage to the collaborative construction of a diorama with artist Bobby Lukas, the Brown Shoe packaging has been an exploration in two-dimensional metaphor and representation.

Jackalope's sticky note collage is an expression of the highly integrated and layered patchwork of the album's aural textures. The moody and surreal landscape of Vanity's cover gives way to stark white emptiness mirroring the album's brooding sound and vulnerable honesty.

Leveraging popular grid system motifs of the 1960's, I worked with Producer/Director Joey Tosi and Art Director Graham Shaw to develop the Cry Baby Documentary's graphic look and contemporary feel. The films titles were designed to match the original 1960's Cry Baby logo and the color palette adds modern relevance.

Agency: FUEL Creative Group
Client: Prosper Magazine
Project: Business System, Marketing Piece
Role: Designer

Sacramento's top boutique design agency, FUEL Creative Group, took a struggling local publication and turned it into an award winner. After winning the Gold Folio Magazine Ozzie Award for Best Magazine Redesign in 2007, FUEL continued to reshape the face of the Prosper brand. While designing under Creative Director & Principal Brent Rector, I was given the opportunity to translate FUEL's recent redesign into a dynamic business system and impactive marketing piece. The mini magazine concept transcends the standard unimaginative giveaway notepad, complete with introductory sections and unique tips for success on each page.

Studio: Dunlop Art Department
Project: Guitar Pick Business Card
Role: Concept & Design

The concept and design of the new Dunlop business card is simple: leverage a marquee brand and showcase Dunlop's manufacturing prowess.

The card is made of the same materials and methods as the trademark Tortex picks, an industry leader for 30 years. Card recipients are not only left with the name and number of their new Dunlop contact, they hold a tangible reminder that they are working with the world's leader in guitar accessory manufacturing.

Additionally, if they don't already have a couple of Dunlop guitar picks swirling around in their pockets, they simply pop one out and play.

Studio: Dunlop Art Department
Project: Dunlop 2011 Catalog
Role: Project Manager, Designer, Associate Art Director

The primary design problem of the Dunlop catalog is the target audience, or should I say audiences. The catalog needs to function as both a basic parts catalog for retailers and distributors, while simultaneously exciting and inspiring end users. The concept used to solve this problem was simple, let the products speak for themselves. Through photo art direction, I was able to isolate and present the products' innate appeal. Dynamic photography and a rigid grid system further facilitates communication to the two distinctive audiences.
